Bootlegger
Campground is located just 1 3/4 miles north of
Slide Rock State Park which makes Bootlegger a hard place
to get a campsite, especially on the weekends. Bootlegger
is tucked between Oak Creek and the highway (89A) and has
limited campsites, 10 to be exact. There is no room for
RV's in this tightly knit campground. Arrive early to ensure
a better chance at a campsite.
Fishing
includes rainbow and brown trout stocked weekly by Arizona
Game and Fish. Fly as well as spin fishermen have luck year
round at Oak Creek making it one of the hottest fishing
spots in Arizona. There is a special catch and release area
in Oak Creek from Call of the Canyon down to the Junipine
Resort, so make sure you know where you are on the creek.
Nearby
are Banjo Bill and Halfway Picnic areas (just south
of Bootlegger).
Showers are available at Cave
Springs Campground and are
coin operated.
There
is a visitor center across the street from the Indian Gardens
Historic Marker (look for the green building to the south).
